The house is called Waternook. The bay is home to a pier for the Ullswater steamers - the start or finish point for the walk to or from Glenridding or Patterdale to / from here.
The Summit of Hallin Fell
A very fine effort of cairn-building is on show here. Looking at the drawing in Wainwright's book and the photo here, I suspect the top is missing. You could have a family picnic up here. If you have a family. And some sandwiches. Avoid rain.
Revision
That's my pal, Simon, enjoying a pint and doing a spot of revision after our ascent of Hallin Fell. We are in the public bar of the Howtown Hotel - a charming little bar for walkers.
I found this on TripAdvisor "After a very wet walk today from Glenridding we arrived back at Howtown and called into the Public bar at the back of the hotel for tea and scones. Unfortunatley we had no cash and they could not take our credit card but the kind owner let us have our excellent tea and scones and send the money on. The hotel is very nice and we will now go back and stay. Thanks for being so kind. Pete and Anne" Comment about TripAdvisor - half the reports must be written by the owners; half by competitors and all the rest by genuine visitors!

Suggested Route: There is only one route up the fell, but a plethora of other things to do whilst in the area. Surely nobody can simply climb up Hallin Fell and then claim to have had a day's fellwalking.
My Frequency: Once.
Whilst You're There: A stroll along the shoreline to Glenridding, come back by boat. Check the times.
Someone Else's View: Peter Selwood's walk of 28th November 2008. I came across this whilst Googling, I decided it was well worth connecting with Peter's blog and folk should have a look, it's a good 'un.
